Why the game moved to 2026
Rain98 was announced in April 2025 and entered full-scale development the same month. It was shown to players at events including BitSummit, PAX East, Tokyo Game Show and Gamescom Latam. In the director's message announcing the move to 2026, director Shoon T explained that the team concluded the game needed more time to reach the quality it deserved, and that they wanted Rain98 to be something that lingers rather than something that ends with the credits.
The concrete consequence is more interactive material. The message says the full release will include a wider array of experiences meant to evoke daily life in late-1990s Tokyo, built to connect to character psychology and the story's tone rather than to function as gimmicks.
Platforms
Steam on PC is the only platform the studio has put a store page on. The Steam listing carries Windows 10 system requirements, a 6 GB install size, controller and DualSense support, Steam achievements, Steam Cloud and Family Sharing. Console versions have not been announced by the developer or publisher.
What has actually shipped so far

- The demo covers the opening of the story through the first half of Chapter 2, in nine languages, with a planned update to complete Chapter 2.
- Demo reception has been mixed: at the time of checking, Steam showed the demo at 56% positive from 81 reviews, with most of the criticism aimed at the story's final stretch rather than its presentation.
